'Ayalaan' Trailer: Serious issue with a touch of comedy

Sivakarthikeyan plays an unofficial environmentalist in 'Ayalaan', the pan-Indian Sankranthi release. As someone who believes that this Planet is even for worms and insects, the male protagonist is a bit of an extreme idealist. His buddies, played by Yogi Babu and Karunakaran, may laugh at him but they will have to reconcile with him eventually, especially after an alien drops by to side with him.

The sci-fi comedy has the hero care even for pests, prompting his friends to admonish him saying that farming will become impossible if he were to have his way. The alien gets a heroic entry, powered by a stylized score that reminds us of Shankar's 'Robot' and '2.0'. The reference to American alien movies is funny. Sharad Kelkar plays an honcho who is heralding something new. Does he have ulterior motives?

Producer Kotapadi J Rajesh seems to have spent what was required. AR Rahman's background music sounds able in the trailer. Co-starring Rakul Preet Singh (who gets a meagre presence in the trailer), Isha Koppikar, Bhanupriya and others, the film has cinematography done by Nirav Shah. Anbariv and T Muthuraj, respectively, are doing stunts and production design.

The pan-India release will arrive in theatres on January 12.
