Superstar Rajinikanth on Saturday called on UP CM Yogi Adityanath. He touched the feet of Yogi out of respect. Here are some of the criticisms made by many Tamilians, liberals and anti-BJP commentators/Netizens as knee-jerk reaction.
1. The 'Jailer' superstar acted in a servile manner. He insulted his own stature.
2. Rajini wants to curry some favours with the BJP.
3. Rajini is a proud Tamilian. He shouldn't have dishonoured his own identity by bowing down to a North Indian leader.
The above criticisms are ignorant and propagandist in nature. The third one, in fact, is racist in tone.
When Hindi film stars are trolled by politically motivated Netizens, at least a few voices come to their defence in Bollywood. Actresses such as Taapsee Pannu and Swara Bhaskar defend their colleagues against trolls. Anurag Kashyap and (till a few years ago) Karan Johar defended their colleagues.
Shouldn't Tamil and Telugu actors, who are proud of Rajini's achievements, defend him in a similar manner? He has been shamed and subjected to irrational mockery and riducle since last evening.
