The blockbuster viewership of Salman Khan's Tiger 3 was replaced by the "record-breaking viewership" of the World Cup semi-final between India and New Zealand, reports trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Wednesday's ticket sales brought in Rs 20.50 crore, less than half of the previous day's earnings, bringing the film's total score to Rs 165 crore at the domestic box office with the regional versions adding a bit more. Tiger 3 started well on Wednesday morning with footfall in theatres dropping from 1pm onwards, according to Mr Adarsh.
Tiger 3, set in the YRF Spy Universe, is the third entry in the blockbuster spy franchise. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif reprise their roles as the titular Tiger and Zoya. Emraan Hashmi joins the cast as the antagonist. The film released on Diwali day.
"Tiger 3 started off well in morning shows on Day 4, but business took a severe hit post 1 pm due to the crucial IND vs NZ semi-final cricket match. While reporting Day 3 earnings, Taran Adarsh predicted that cricket would affect Tiger 3's business the next day. “Salman Khan scores his biggest 3-day total with Tiger 3. As per Taran Adarsh, until day 3, the film was Bollywood's third biggest hit of the year after Jawan and Pathaan, both headlined by Shah Rukh Khan.
The film, which gave Salman Khan his biggest theatrical opening so far, also became the “highest opener on Diwali Day” in Bollywood. Sharing further details, Taran Adarsh said, “While no major Hindi film has released on Diwali Day in more than a decade (film biz is severely impacted since people are busy with festivities and Laxmi Puja), Tiger 3 emerges a game changer. Decimates all BO records for Diwali Day. Hold on, not only is Tiger 3 the highest opener on Diwali Day, but also Salman Khan's biggest opener ever (yes, you read that right!). Sunday ₹ 43 cr.
