Tamil cinema heroes like Kamal, Suriya, Vikram up for event films!

After Mani Ratnam on Monday announced that Kamal Haasan's 234th movie, to be directed by him, is titled 'Thug Life', there has been a lot of chatter about the auteur's ability to surprise the audience. While Madras Talkies is yet to reveal the movie's genre and backdrop, it seems the film will be a period drama where the 'Vikram' actor will be seen in a remarkably author-backed role. Already, 'Thug Life' has stolen a march over 'Indian 2'.

Kollywood is slowly upping the game. While Tollywood has surpassed Tamil cinema in recent years thanks to the two 'Baahubali' movies, the two 'Pushpa' movies, and Prabhas' pan-India movies (mainly 'Kalki 2898 AD'), Tamil directors are slowly trying to do a catch-up job. Besides 'Thug Life', a few other upcoming movies have the ability to become pan-south Indian hits.

Dhanush's 'Captain Miller', Suriya's 'Kanguva', Suriya's 43rd movie to be directed by Sudha Kongaram, and Vikram's 'Thangalaan' are the ones. 'Thangalaan', to be released in theatres on January 26 next year (2024) becoming a pan-south Indian hit will mainstream a particular narrative. 'Kanguva' has the greatest potential to generate huge openings in Telugu.
