EXCLUSIVE: Nimrit RECALLS first meeting with Choti Sarrdaarni co star Avinesh; Says ‘Had no idea who he was’

Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia has been a household name with her ongoing stint in Colors’ Choti Sarrdaarni wherein she plays the lead role of Meher. Not just the actress has won hearts with her performance but her onscreen chemistry with co-star Avinesh Rekhi, who plays the role of Sarabjeet Singh Gill, is also the talk of the town in since the inception of Choti Sarrdaarni. In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, Nimrit got candid about her equation with Avinesh and recalled how their first meeting on the sets left her embarrassed.

Talking about the same, the young actress revealed that she had met Avinesh during her mock test for the show. “The first time I went for my mock shoot, we were just generally chit chatting and I was very oblivious and unaware. I just felt that he is another new boy who is here for the mock test as well. I had no idea he was an established TV actor who has done an ample amount of work. I was in a very quirky space and conversation with him. So, I was not intimidated. I was in a free spirit. However, later on, when I found it, I was a little embarrassed for the way I behaved,” Nimrit stated.

Furthermore, when quizzed about her experience of working with Avinesh, the actress was all praises for him and said, “It’s been a great experience working with him. There is a certain kind of maturity that he brings with himself and one could say that probably it comes from the fact he has spent so much time in the industry. So, I think it is a very nice mix that happens when two contrasting energies come together. I would say I am more on the bubblier and fun side as I still feel I am in college while he comes with a lot of sensibilities. So, when two contrasting energies come together, that’s what probably everybody loves and that’s what worked for our show.”

Interestingly, apart from Nimrit and Avinesh, Choti Sarrdaarni also stars renowned actress Anita Raj in a key role. However, Nimrit stated that she never had a feeling of intimidation. Talking about the same, she added “One could see I am very much confident in my own skin. Every time I met people who I wasn’t aware of the kind of work they have done; I really feel very very grateful that I am getting to work with someone as senior as Anita Mam. It’s been good that I am working with her because there is so much that one can learn from her on set. But never a moment of intimidation came up. She is actually like my friend. We chill so much and we talk very often.”

For the uninitiated, Choti Sarrdaarni, post the recent leap, features Nimrit playing the role of three kids. But when quizzed about having any inhibitions about playing a mother at such a young age, Nimrit mentioned, “There was no inhibition or fear because the first poster of Choti Sarrdaarni was me with a seventh month pregnancy bump. If I had to be inhibited, I could have been at that time. Technically, since the beginning of the show, I have been a mother. I never look at things from the smaller spectrum, I always try to zoom out and I feel that I am an actor and I need to do justice to my character I could be married, I could be a widow, I could be a mother. So it’s okay.” She also revealed that it was the intensity of the character which had attracted her for her show.

Emphasising it, Nimrit said, “I just wanted my first character should be such which should leave an impact on the audience and I felt that Mehr’s character was once such character. It was also kind of challenging and because I think it is an unconventional choice. Usually, when a girl steps into the industry, they want to play the girl next door, but this particular story and character is such that you can play an entire graph from bringing a college girl to falling in love, losing love etc. The intensity is what attracted me.”
