Filmmaker and lyricist Saawan Kumar Tak died at the age of 86 in a Mumbai hospital on Thursday evening. The filmmaker was brought to the hospital on Wednesday, where he was being treated for lungs infection and breathing issues, news agency PTI reported. "He passed away at 4:15pm due to heart failure. His heart had stopped functioning," the filmmaker's nephew Navin told PTI. Members of the film fraternity paid tribute to the filmmaker. Salman Khan, who worked in Saawan Kumar Tak's 1991 film Sanam Bewafa and the 2006 film Saawan...The Love Season, posted a throwback picture of himself with the late filmmaker and he wrote: "May you rest in peace my dear Sawaan ji. Have always loved and respected you."

Anil Kapoor also shared a few memories in the form of throwback pictures and he wrote: "Truly saddened to hear about the demise of Sawan Kumar. The ever-joyful Sawanji's keen understanding of music gave us some beautiful songs. I'll always remember him as one of the first directors who truly believed in me. RIP Sawan ji."

Padmini Kohlaphure, who had worked with the filmmaker in Souten and Sajan Bina Suhagan, posted a throwback picture and she wrote: "Zindagi Gham ka sagar bhi hai ...Hans ke uspaar jaana padega...Sawan Kumar Tak aaj zindagi numa saagar ko paar karke uspaar chaley gaye. Om Shanti."

Saawan Kumar Tak, who had written many songs for Rakesh Roshan's film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, was remembered by the director in a tweet that rea, "Jawaan ji going to miss you, may your soul rest in eternal peace."

Saawan Kumar Tak, was best-known for directing Sanam Bewafa, Souten, Chaand Ka Tukda and Saawan... The Love Season, to name a few. He made his directorial debut in 1972 with Gomti Ke Kinare, starring Meena Kumari.

As a lyricist, he had written songs such as Pyaar Ki Kashti Mein, Janeman Janeman and Chand Sitaare for Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai.
