Prabhas's films: Of endless delays and weak content

The audiences have seen Prabhas barely four times in the last seven years. 'Baahubali: The Beginning' and 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' made him a national star. 'Saaho' didn't release within a year of the second part. It took more than two years. 'Radhe Shyam' came out in theatres 2.5 years after 'Saaho' came out.

Both 'Saaho' and 'Radhe Shyam' got hyped up during the interregnum like anything. Fans and general audience members started believing that these films would be out of the world and therefore they were taking a long time to be made. 'Saaho' was a complex film to be made only to a very limited extent. Only the chase sequence shot in Dubai looked like a challenge.

'Radhe Shyam' doesn't look like a vastly difficult film either, at least by Bollywood's standards. You might be told that the pandemic caused the inordinate delay in the release of 'Radhe Shyam'. But the same doesn't hold water. It was a sluggish film in the making even before 'Saaho' came out. Thaman, the BGM composer, came on board in January this year. Does the BGM composer walking in so late have anything to do with the production design of the film being a tough job or its VFX work being complex?

'Saaho' flopped in all languages except Hindi. The jury is still out on 'Radhe Shyam', but it is clear that its writing part has not been hailed by most audiences.

Prabhas' films have suffered from the burden of agonizing delays, made worse by the pandemic and even worse by poor content.
