It was on this date (August 5) last year that two unexpected blockbusters hit the cinemas. 'Sita Ramam' and 'Bimbisara' stunned the trade by posting excellent openings. Prior to the release of Kalyanram's fantasy action entertainer, there were hints that its openings would be excellent. Dulquer Salmaan's period romantic drama couldn't dent its prospects despite the unanimous positive talk that it enjoyed.

Both 'Sita Ramam' and 'Bimbisara' are among the films with the utmost repeat value in recent times.

In a statement on Saturday, director Hanu Raghavapudi thanked Dulquer and Mrunal Thakur for bringing the "timeless love of Ram and Sita to life on screen, enchanting audiences worldwide with your remarkable performances." The film had music by Vishal Chandrasekhar and the cinematography by PS Vinod-Shreyas Krishna duo.

'Bimbisara' had sincere performances and a majestic score by MM Keeravani. "For a new director, Vassishta shows imagination. He blends elements from folk dramas and weds them with the masala genre," our review said. More than a year since its release, its sequel has remained a non-starter. The audience's wait continues.

'Sita Ramam' was produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema. The other movie was bankrolled by NTR Arts.
