Love is in the air, all thanks to director Hansal Mehta. The celebrated filmmaker, on Wednesday, announced that he has married his long-time partner, Safeena Husain in an intimate ceremony with the blessings of close friends and family. Hansal said that the ceremony was an unplanned one, that came after 17 years of togetherness and two children. In an Instagram post, Hansal and Safeena are seen smiling for pictures, holding up placards that say “love” and also posing with what appears to be a marriage certificate. Sharing the pictures, Hansal Mehta said, “So after 17 years, two children, watching our sons growing up and chasing our respective dreams we decided to get hitched. As always in life, this was also impromptu and unplanned.”

In the note, Hansal Mehta further added, “Our vows however were truthful and but for this little ceremony they would never have been said. Ultimately love prevails over all else. And it has…”

Replying to the post, Hansal Mehta's long-time collaborator, actor Rajkummar Rao said, “Congratulations my fav couple. You guys complete each other. I love you both."

Actor Manoj Bajpayee wished the couple and wrote, “Wow! Wow! Congratulations and best wishes to both of you lovelies.”

Huma Qureshi said, “Aww,” with heart emojis. Chef Ranveer Brar, who has worked with Hansal Mehta in Modern Love: Mumbai dropped heart emojis.

Actor-singer Meiyang Chang said, “How absolutely wonderful. Congratulations, sir.” Pratik Gandhi, who worked with Hansal Mehta in the hugely popular Scam 1992, said: “This is lovely. Well, it's inspiring and pressurising too. Bhamini Oza Gandhi is already giving me heard looks,”  referring to his partner.

Hansal Mehta's last release was part of Amazon Prime's Modern Love: Mumbai segment, titled Baai. Recently, the director shared some behind-the-scenes images from the sets of the film. In the image, he is seen interacting with veteran actress Tanuja, who plays an important role in the film. In the caption, he said, “Baai. Never have opinions on my work been as polarised as they are on this little labour of love. This film makes me proud. It is new territory for me and yet it reflects a lot of me and our times.”

In the long note, where he addressed his team, Hansal Mehta thanked his lead actors, Pratik Gandhi and Ranveer Brar. He wrote, “All my love to Pratik Gandhi for being a most generous and surrendering actor who just slipped into a difficult part in spite of a busy schedule. Thank you Ranveer Brar for gracing our film with your lovely presence and for the outstanding food on set and for the recipes that I will always treasure. Tanuja ji, thank you for blessing our film with your ethereal presence.”

On the work front, Hansal Mehta is currently working on Scam 2003: The Telgi Story which will star veteran theatre artist Gagan Dev Riar in the role of convicted Indian counterfeiter Abdul Karim Telgi.
