'Thandel' glimpse: Routine staging of heroic patriotism

A glimpse video from the makers of 'Thandel' was released today. While Geetha Arts has been projecting the Chandoo Mondeti directorial as a one-of-its-kind action thriller, today's glimpse turns out to be underwhelming. The staging of heroic patriotism, as represented by Naga Chaitanya's fierce and rugged character, is routine. There is nothing out-of-the-box about it.

From the start, the makers said that 'Thandel' would be realistic and gritty. Today's glimpse is a far cry from that description: it is laced with a cinematic moment in a Karachi jail, complete with a punchline. And Chay's character is larger-than-life rather than slice-of-life.

Towards the end, Sai Pallavi's character is introduced. And this is the only ray of hope. We get a feeling that the film's emotional beats will be enriched by the chemistry between the 'Love Story' pair.

Music is by Devi Sri Prasad. Editing is by Navin Nooli. Cinematography is by Shamdat. Produced by Bunny Vas, the film will hit the cinemas in multiple languages in the second half of this year.
