I am not responsible for helping you forget your worries: Indraganti

Mohankrishna Indraganti has opined that it is not the filmmaker's responsibility to make the audience forget their difficulties. "If you want to be entertained and have fun, go to a pub. Why do you want to come to a cinema hall? You need to redefine entertainment. The Telugu audience are not more stressed out than the Malayalam and Tamil audience," the director of films like 'Ashta Chamma' and 'Ami Thumi' opined.

The opinion has predictably divided the Netizens out there. Some say that Indraganti is just being an elitist and snobbish filmmaker. Others say that he has a point, considering "entertainment" and cinema get defined in narrow terms by a section of commercial filmmakers.

Indraganti makes it appear like he is an intelligent filmmaker who can make mindless entertainers and but won't do it because he has a higher conception of cinema. When he tried to outdo commercial filmmakers with 'V', we know the result: it was a crashing bore that narrowly escaped a disaster thanks to its OTT release.

And it's not like Indraganti has had a consistent track record with romantic dramas: 'Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali' was difficult to sit through. What about his comedies? 'Ami Thumi' played to the gallery and involved everything from body-shaming to insult comedy.
