New Delhi:

India is currently experiencing some unseasonal World Cup fever. The hotly-anticipated '83 releases this week and spirits are high, as was evident at Mumbai's JW Marriott Hotel today where some of the original Kapil's Devils showed up to promote the Kabir Khan-directed film. Kapil Dev, who has been on publicity duty for '83, did not appear to be on the bus that drew up outside the hotel on Tuesday morning but some very iconic players alighted - Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Madan Lal, Dilip Vengsarkar, Roger Binny, Kirti Azad and Sandeep Patil. Also missing in action were Ravi Shastri, Syed Kirmani and Sunil Valson. Yashpal Sharma, who played a key role in the 1983 victory, died in July this year.

Kapil's Devils, as the 1983 squad became known, brought home the country's first World Cup, defeating West Indies in a stunning final match. The World Cup winning catch - Vivian Richards'wicket - was taken by Kapil Dev off Madan Lal's bowling. Balwinder Singh Sandhu had an eventful final - he clean bowled Gordon Greenidge and was also hit on the head by a bouncer. Vice-Captain Mohinder Amarnath won Match of the Match for his 50-run partnership with K Srikkanth and three wickets.
