New Delhi:

Veteran actress Zeenat Aman's latest Instagram post or what she playfully calls, "lunchtime lecturing" sheds light on the "falsehoods" and "cruel statements" that the actress was subjected to in her lifetime by being "in the public eye." Ever since joining the photo-sharing app, Zeenat Aman has unmasked many facets of her life, being her tumultuous relationship with Dev Anand to the accusations of obscenity which came her way during the shoot of Satyam Shivam Sundaram. The actor, who has never shied away from baring her soul to the world, did nothing different in her latest post as well.

Starting the note on "public perception" the film veteran wrote, "Public perception is a funny thing. When you are famous, strangers imagine that they have an intimate knowledge of your character and life story. Many also feel entitled to the sort of gossip and judgement that would elicit their moral outrage when the tables turned. In my 50 years in Hindi cinema, I have read and heard enough falsehoods and cruel statements about myself to fill a book. I do not incline to list and counter each one of these because they simply do not merit so much of my attention."

Revealing her method of dealing with "loose gossip", Zeenat Aman continued, "Now I know the usual response to such an assertion is - well if you choose to be in the public eye, then deal with the gossip. To which my reply is - yes, I have and will continue to deal with it. But I will also not hesitate to say that spreading loose gossip and false information says much more about the speaker than the one who is spoken about!"

The actress however ended her caption on a light note by thanking her followers for their "thoughtful messages" below her each post. She signed off by saying. "Alright, that's enough lunchtime lecturing for the week! I truly appreciate all of you who enjoy my Instagram handle, and share such kind and thoughtful messages and comments with me. I'm unable to reply to them all, but I do read them. Have a lovely week, everyone!"

Zeenat Aman's heartfelt post struck a note with actress Kajol, who in turn commented, "facts."

Take a look at the post below:

Recently,  in an essay for Vogue, Zeenat Aman also opened up about how social media has placed her in the driver's seat of her narrative, making it a "liberating" experience. “I didn't realise how much being able to publicly speak my truths would delight me. As a leading actor in the '70s, I was always a subject of conversation, but rarely on my terms. The gossip and perceptions could be suffocating, and there was rarely recourse to set the record straight. On Instagram, I have found the freedom to express myself. It's liberating, and consequently, I haven't accepted a single interview request that's come my way since February,” the actress wrote.

Zeenat Aman also added that it was her son Zahaan and his partner, Cara, who convinced her to join Instagram. She confessed that she had several “trepidations” about joining the photo-sharing app, but they convinced her to give it a shot.

Zeenat Aman is best known for her work in iconic films like  Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Don, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Hare Rama Hare Krishna.
